Notes of the Oscar and Grammy week's

Lindsay Kelterer of Distinctive Assets once again rocked the house with her backstage lounge at The Staples Center. The Grammy Gift Lounge presented by Guitar Hero II was a huge success with several great brands and lines participating! It was music to every one’s ears.

Rascal Flats and the Pussy Cat Dolls loved the Guitar Hero II. James Blunt picked up two pairs (black and pewter) of the Chinese Laundry shoes for his model perfect ladylove. (Soooo jealous!) Mary J got the gold, (shoes and 3 awards later) while Ciara thought the brass shoe was “fly.”

Corrine Bailey Rae with her larger than life presence and now huge career needed “some glasses to hide behind.” She chose the Kate Spade oversized at The Solstice Boutique while Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussy Cat Dolls said “I want glasses that say I’m a diva and I’m famous” Her $614 pair of Boucehron Rimless shields (one of the most expensive pairs at The Solstice Sunglass Boutique) say that and more. It pays to be a pussycat.

Iconic diva Natalie Cole picked up 12 colors of nail polish at The Creative Nail Design Inc while all the artist swooned over the special Swarovski crystal designed hair dryer made by Hair Dr. Spela. The dryer is both preventative with its ionic attributes and healing with its infra red properties. Who knew drying could provide hair repair? Wyclef Jean ordered two while Reba McIntyre, Natalie Cole & Jennifer Love Hewitt grabbed joluka denim jackets. Jennifer took one joluka back on set for Camryn Manheim. The jackets are adorable and functional. Super soft w/ military accents, the original Marina material or Swarovksi buttons, they also have big hidden inside pockets for sippy cups or for make up and keys for non-Moms like myself.

Nespresso gave away the bomb diggity espresso machine. One cup there and I was offering up my services to be anybody’s back up dancer. No takers…still hoping. Still…hanging in there. Ciara and Rihanna grabbed Elliott Lucca’s Deluxe bag in khaki (Me too! We’re like sisters. We haven’t met, but we will.) Carrie could she win another award Underwood grabbed several bottles of the Dermacia foundation. Get some! Look at her! Her skin is flawless and Jim Hayek that wickedly talented painter was showing off his artistry with his larger than life paintings made for the artists, inspired by them and their songs. His painting for The Dixie Chicks “Not Ready to Make Nice” still gives me chills. Absolutely Brilliant!!! Thank you Jim for the look! What a gift!

Every one was tapping their new Osiris shoes while Wyclef did some freestyle rapping at the Gibson Guitar booth. Stewart Copeland jumped behind the drum kit. Natalie Cole sang “Imagine.” Can you imagine? It doesn’t get better than that. Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers played the drums…and ended the song by kicking over the drum set. Naturally…

Thanks to the ever lovely Lindsay of Distinctive Assets and my funny friend, Heather from Distinctive who looks like Natalie Wood slash could kind of be Christina Ricci. Thanks gals for your generosity, warmth, wit and always making me feel like I’m in the band…some band…any band.

All in a week’s work…and that’s a wrap…

Jenn Laskey of Redlight Special Events and Promotions celebrated the opening of the Royal Order Boutique in Beverly Hills. It was the perfect week for the rock and roll inspired line. Jen Gross of Evolutionary Media Group threw The Friends and Family of Grammy party at The Jim Henson studio the Friday before the awards. I hooked up w/ my friends Zuzanna (stylists & publicist) and my buddy Brad Baker, an amazing photographer who I met on set in Andy Dicks’ film “Danny Roane”. He was the on set photographer. Talented!!!

Grammy Time

Couch Nobelius’ annual Grammy Style Lounge sponsored by In Style Magazine kicked off the week of Grammy activities. It’s The Recording Academy’s official luxury fashion showcase where nominees, performers, presenters and celebrities selected designer clothing for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards and other Grammy week events.

Stepping in to The Style Studio held at Ocean Way Recording Studio on Sunset made me want to break in to song. You could feel the richness and the musical history in the studio. What you missed was on the wall, “Gold Records on the Wall”…

Several celebs stopped in to get their style on. Mischa’s man Cisco Adler, Black Eyed Peas, Idol beauty Katherine McPhee, Gnarls Barkley, one of my faves, the Celtic KT Tunstall, Peter Frampton (YES! Peter Frampton), Linkin Park, Common, Earth, Wind & Fire and that yummy hunk of burning young talent John Legend. I walked right in to John as I walked out of the lounge. Thank you God for timing!

Urban Decay was on hand to make the famous faces flawless while Warren Tricomi did the blowouts. My girls at Tweezerman did my nails and Bliss blew oxygen on my face. I wanted to leave with that machine.

The fashion was fierce with the Brits in full force from Ted Baker (Love that line & their rep Fiona!) Jenny Peckham (Bond Girl fave) & Vivienne Westwood (needs no intro). Gwen sort of British by way of her hubby Stefani had her delicious larger than life L.A.M.B. clutches and retro inspired bangle watches on hand. Holla back girl! Too cute!!! The Grammy Brand of T-shirts, watches and sunglasses were being scooped up by all the guys and gals and my girl Jennifer MacFarland was spoiling all the boys with those hip K Swiss.. Ari Soffer's sick leather and jewelry line with skulls and diamonds created a pool of drool in the room.

Thanks again to Kate Olsen from Couch Nobelius for her kindness and hospitality.

Picture Perfect

Stepping in to Mauro’s CafĂ© on Melrose Avenue always feels like I am crossing the pond to Europe. With a room full of accents, arrogance and style, it is often the change of pace that my week needs. Last Thursday, I not only felt like I stepped in to another world, I felt like I fell back in time. It was a fall I was willing to take. Shirley MacLaine curated Murray Garrett’s Silent Auction to Benefit The Motion Picture & Television Fund.

In 1941, Murray Garrett started his photography career at 15 assisting Eileen Darby at the Graphic House in New York, a leading photography agency. By 20, he set up the west coast office and was the Bureau Chief. His pictures graced the pages of every major publication.

The 42 black and white photos were stunning! Murray was known for capturing the essence of Hollywood in a manner that was both efficient and unobtrusive. As I walked through the gallery I felt like a fly on the wall in the 50’s. The vibrancy in the pictures was palpable. I could almost smell the smoke in the room, hear the clink of the ice in the cocktail and feel the camaraderie and creativity amongst the actors, comedians and singers. Marilyn never looked more beautiful. Brando never looked sexier blowing on the ear of the kitty wrapped around his young neck and Lauren Bacall…what a woman!

What were most enjoyable were Shirley’s comments next to the pictures. The young pixie was captured in the pictures. The wiser, worldly, witty Shirley commented.

CHO CHENG

There’s no better way to ring in a new month than with an outing at Mr. Chow’s. The only way to imagine anything better is if you threw a bit of high fashion in the mix. Film Fashion did just that with 21year old designer Cho Cheng. Wise, worldly and with talent well beyond his years, the young Cho Cheng comes from a long thread of couture talent.

From the couture house CHO CHENG that was founded 45 years after his grandmother Betty Char-Nuis set up her couture atelier in Hong Kong. The best way to honor this history of fashion was to bring in Carmen Dell’Orefice, a supermodel from the 50’s, a diva and a head turner today. Stunning!

With ethereal models walking through the crowd in his many gowns, the setting was sophisticated, festive and fashionable with the Veuve Clicquot flowing, one delish dish of passed apps after another and LA’s top fashion journos in tow. Fashion never looked, felt or tasted so good!

East side...

Once a ghost town, now downtown has more life being pumped in to it with each passing day and every new restaurant opening. On a Wednesday night, mid week, hump night, the absolutely Fabulous PR managed to get several celebs and non athletic types to fill what felt like a stadium, Trifecta the new sports bar on Second and Main. With games going on every screen and every corner, the players were hitting the app trays in full force. Jumbo Tiger Prawns, Buffalo Chicken Skewers and Pulled Pork Sliders had every one in on the grab and jab. I did my best to participate in the biggest game going, at the bar. I enjoyed the Krystal Vodka Slam Dunk, an Apple Martini with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. If that’s considered spring training, let the games begin.

I don’t know how many athletes were on deck. I do know there were plenty of funny folks around. I hung with Napoleon Dynamite’s Effrem Ramirez & his twin Carlos. As a twin myself, we have a serious twin connection. Look for them in a future Dinner & Dish for double the dish.

Also playing was the truly, madly funny Debra Wilson & one of my oldest and craziest LA friends Andy Dick, his son Lucas, Marshall Cook, the producer of Andy’s film Danny Roane First Time Director and, an Academy Award nominated writer (Monster House) and the now head writer on Andy’s new TV show on Comedy Central. Stay tuned for the funny!!!

The Good Diamond

Stylist to the stars George Blodwell and songstress Liza Jane Likins hosted a sparkly fete at The Peninsula Hotel on Wednesday the 31st of January. Ladies who don’t lunch, but probably pinch (their skin), the thin Tiffany types filled the Magnolia Room, donning their own diamonds and dragging their oversized furs on a mildly cool night in LA LA. The crowd had no eyes for the passed shrimp, cheese and chicken treats, yet couldn’t take their eyes off the gorgeous Diamonds by White Flash. Sipping on champagne, the British, American and South African crew came in from Houston with their diamonds, which originated in a cruel free mine in South Africa.

Their loose, princess cuts and heart and arrow diamonds were impressive! In no need of the limelight or any light, they sparkled in the dark, a testament to a true star and a truly stunning diamond. With celebs and socialite clients from all over the world, their largest fan base is in California. Selling solely online, their prices were surprisingly affordable (for a diamond). Diamonds are a girl’s best friend & my new BFF. For more info:

Pump up the volume

Amplified PR (www.amplifiedpr.net) had an Open House on Wednesday January 31st at their new showroom on Beverly Blvd. in Beverly Hills. They had tons of yummy spring T’s. If you have to wear a shirt this spring, go Topless! Their new T’s have several vintage iconic women emblazoned on the front. The look, fit & touch was sexy, sexy, sexy! Tons of other T’s were on offer from Mighty Fine, Disney Couture and Public Library.

It’s hard to be impressed by T’s today as there are so many lines out there. Yet each line drew me in with their interesting cuts, embroidery, washes and their subtle, interesting details. Public Library had T’s w/ replications of stars tats from our favorite Caribbean pirate Johnny Depp, Britain’s own, soon to be ours, Beckham & Brad’s Babe Angelina.

Other designs for the lookers: Lucas Design International with their fine & costume jewelry. Disney led the pack with their many licensed lines from Peter Pan, Kidada for Disney Couture, Snow White & the oh so sexy and edgy Pirates of The Caribbean. I’d be anybody’s wench, a pirate or otherwise if he promised me one of his rings. Between the baby pirate ship & the handgun ring, they were smoking hot!!! Kidada’s gold crown bracelet worn half way up your arm if you’re Nicole Richie wispy thin (Kidada’s BFF) was equally diva-licious!
